The project involved the replacement of the library and cafetorium, both of which were demolished by Hurricane Iniki. The new buildings, which were designed to maximize ventilation and reflect the local tropical setting, feature deep overhangs to create shaded "lanai" areas that provide usable space and contribute to the energy efficiency of the buildings.

The cafetorium opens to views and prevailing trade winds. The teacher's library workroom was designed to be available after hours for community use. A new bus shelter, parking lot, portable classroom relocation and SMA processing were also provided. AMP worked closely with the community and school to develop a program and design sensitive to public concerns.
